Maggie Makes Four!

This journal started off documenting the adoption of our youngest daughter. It now follows the twist and turns of our lives as we raise these two amazing little creatures into the best women they can become.

Packing: Do you really need duct tape?

I am not a pack rat. I am not someone who travels with lots of stuff typically. I figure, there are stores; if I forget something really critical, I can go get it.

However, traveling to China to adopt a child is different. A: There is an infant I don't know involved. I will know this child intimately soon, but right now, I have no clue as to her personality or preferences. B: There is the fact we are going to China: The land of inferior diapers. Yes, they have disposable diapers in China, but they are not the same quality as they are in the US. C: Related to the first item, when something goes wrong with the unknown infant in China, I need a fall back strategy. Let's just say Benadryl leaves the child agitated, wouldn't it be handy to have some Dimetapp on hand? I hear Dimetapp cures sniffles and causes drowsiness. This decision is a no brainer: I am taking Benadryl and Dimetapp. It turns out, I am taking an entire house to China to 4 oversized suitcases. There are stores in China, but the procurement process isn't as 'streamlined' as it is on the US. This explanation I will save for now.

This leaves me with the issue of duct tape: To pack or not to pack duct tape? On the con side: Oh for crying out loud, why would a sane person take duct tape 10,000 miles? On the pro side: A ripped out mesh crib that could be repaired with duct tape or perhaps hinges on a crib that could be covered to prevent pinches with duct tape. Both of these situations happened on the last trip. So now I am torn. Take the duct tape for the 3 inches of tape I need or tough it out? Hmmmm...any opinions out there? Feel free to chime in.
